Frequently Asked Questions

Can I install RunningTotal on more than one iPhone or iPod touch?

Yes, one installation of RunningTotal per iTunes account. But note that there may be data synchronization issues if you have RunningTotal installed on more than one device. At the moment we only support one device per account. This will likely change in the future.

What's the best way of backing up RunningTotal?

We strongly suggest connecting your device (iPhone or iPod touch) to your computer on a regular basis (nightly?), which will back up your data to iTunes, provided you have set up the device in iTunes to sync automatically, which is the default setting in iTunes.

If you have to replace the device for some reason, your RunningTotal data will automatically be transferred to the new device, against the latest sync to iTunes.

If there is a database fault in RunningTotal on your device, backup from the last known-good copy of your data will automatically take place within the app the next time it is started, irrespective of iTunes. This rarely comes up (in fact it's hard to get such database faults to occur, and it was a pain to test.)

Is email service within RunningTotal going to be expanded soon?

Dateline mid-December 2009: we're trying to figure out a way to make email reports look as good over the current Apple in-app e-mail protocols as they did with our previous proprietery foo. This is fifteen miles of bad road. Please bear with us. (If you must know, this is for us the loss leader re. how often we can put out updates, hoo haw.) This is not a problem that originated with us, but we are trying to roll with it. In the meantime, our email system totally rocks.

I'd like to restrict access to RunningTotal with a PIN number, how about this?

Because of the way RunningTotal is typically used, people usually don't want to always be entering in a PIN number, it gets in the way of simply whipping your device out and entering data. However, we may include PIN access as an option in the next update, if there's enough demand.
